For Immediate Release:

The Aiken County Historical Museum is proud to announce our latest exhibit.  This exhibit honors our men and women who have served our country.  The idea started out to recognize the three  marines from North Augusta.  They (Ambassador Theodore R. Britton, Jr., Calvin Jones and the late Willine Stewart) were members of the Montford Point Marines of WWII.  Brenda Baratto, Assistant Director at the Museum and president of the Heritage Council of North Augusta had featured the veterans at the Heritage Council’s February meeting.  What a story!!*
The idea of this exhibit expanded and we now have uniforms of Nelle Louise Barton, one of 305 women Marines of WWI.  Did you know that there were women Marines in WWI??
Other uniform items on display include those of Amy O’Rourke, Joe Babb, Richard Smoot, Richard Smoot, Joe Shields, Gary Lamb, Owen Clary, Bill Stanley, Edith Pickley, Bill Clark, Irene Trowell-Harris, Dean Sackett, Mike Wittkamp, and Tony Riley.
The exhibit will be July, August, and the first two weeks in September.  We anticipate that additional uniforms and accompanying photos will be brought in.  There are many veterans who should be honored by their County Museum.

Veterans, your children, and your grandchildren – bring us your items!
We will honor these Veterans with a reception on Tuesday, July 16th, at the Museum  from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
The public is encouraged to attend.
*I won’t tell you their story now – you’ll have to come to the Museum!
